Balloons at October’s Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta!
Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. The largest hot air ballooning event in the world. That’s why you’ve decided to stay at the American RV Resort, it offers a great place to stay while you are in town at a reasonable rate.
Ascending
Watch the Mass ascensions, where 500 balloons lift off into the morning sky. You’ll be able to catch these on weekend morning and one day mid-week. Mass ascensions begin after “dawn patrol” carefully examines the morning’s weather conditions. 500 balloons in the sky is a breathtaking sight for any observer.
Piloting
Every weekday morning you will see balloon pilots compete in events that stretch their abilities. In the grab event pilots launch a mile away from the field, fly back and try to navigate to a location with an envelope attached to a tall pole. All while dodging the hundreds of other balloons! Balloonists will also compete in the America’s Challenge Gas Balloon Race.
Glowing
You’ll find a number of events in the evenings, but the must-see event are the balloon glows. As the enthusiasts fill their field they will inflate the balloons. Against the night sky these will look like enormous and amazing light bulbs. You can see amazing shapes such as dinosaurs, bumble bees, flowers, a stage coach and even a cow jumping over the moon.
With a View
One of the best things about the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is that you aren’t a long-distance spectator. You can get in on the action by going out amongst the balloons as they are being inflated. You can even help a crew inflate a balloon!
