Christmas, Southwest Style

You’ve decided to get away from the cold for Christmas. Why would you spend a cold winter up north when you could head south and visit the beautiful Southwest? You’ll want to set up shop at the American RV Resort where you can be within close distance of all the great things that Albuquerque has to offer

Just Getting Started

A great way to begin your holiday season is with an Old Town Holiday Stroll. Visit Historic Old Town and celebrate a New Mexican Christmas. You can eat tamales and biscochitos. Perhaps you’d rather partake of some hot chocolate and watch the lighting of the Christmas tree. You can find 15 different stages with live entertainment as you explore the Old Town. Another early event is the Twinkle Light Parade where you can see over 80 twinkling entries around Historic Nob Hill.

A historic marker sign in Albuquerque with text detailing the city's history stands in the foreground. In the background, there's a gazebo surrounded by lush green trees in a park-like setting under a clear Southwest Style sky.

Game Time

If you’re around a week before Christmas, you can catch the 12th Annual Gildan New Mexico Bowl. It will feature teams from the Mountain West Conference and Conference USA.

Christmas

On Christmas Eve you will be delighted if you choose to experience the 53rd Annual Luminaria Tour. This wonderful ride with ABQ RIDE starts at the Albuquerque Convention Center and takes approximately 45 minutes. Perhaps you’d like to experience the River of Lights, millions of glowing sparkling lights on over 150 light displays, animated sculptures and music light show. This is New Mexico’s largest walk-through holiday production. Unfortunately, the River doesn’t run on Christmas or Christmas Eve, but you can catch it either before or after.

A nighttime parade features vintage cars adorned with vibrant holiday lights and Christmas decorations. A dog figure is on top of the leading car. Spectators line both sides of the street, with illuminated storefronts and Southwest-style accents in the background enhancing the festive atmosphere.
